Walter Firle or Walther Firle (August 22, 1859-November 20, 1929) was a 19th-century figurative painter from Germany. He was born in Wrocklaw, Poland and is known for portraits and genre works, depicting figures posed by windows, with dramatic lighting. In "The Fairy Tale," one of his most famous works, Walter Firle placed three children on a sofa, reading from an old book and bathed in golden light. Walter Firle died in Munich, Germany, where much of his work remains in public collections.
